The author
Shaun Michael Samaroo
A newspaperman for thirty years, now writing the novel he was born to write.
Shaun Michael Samaroo is a Guyanese-Canadian writer, journalist and media entrepreneur who learned his trade in the newsroom of Stabroek News in Georgetown, the place he still calls the conscience of a nation. Across more than three decades in newspapers and television he has interviewed prime ministers and parliamentarians, business leaders and world figures, and thousands of ordinary people whose stories he believed mattered just as much. He pioneered documentary-style television in Guyana and has appeared as an invited voice on national current-affairs programs in Canada.
He builds as fiercely as he writes. In the 1990s he helped found an independent investigative weekend journal in Guyana, betting everything he had on the belief that a country deserves a fearless press. He went on to launch a national newspaper there, and two community papers in Canada. Today, from Durham Region in Ontario, he is founder and CEO of Qualped Life Corp, turning a lifetime of storytelling into a platform: QwaiAI, the simsbook smartbook, and the qualped philosophy, all built to turn readers into the authors of their own futures.
Now writing full time, he has given himself to one enormous work. Nightmares of Knowledge is a ten-volume, million-word novel composed in the open, Proustian in scale and Orwellian in warning. It carries the questions that have always driven him: consciousness and language, faith and freedom, and what it means to stay human as the machines awaken. He studied postgraduate journalism at Centennial College and pursued a Master of Divinity at Tyndale University. He insists on going first, making his own life the first draft of the future he asks everyone else to author.
He is building a legacy for his two now-adult children, Kindy and Prince. Away from the page you'll find him with a guitar, a camera, or a chessboard. And, Guyanese to the core, he never misses the cricket.
